Journal of Guitar Acoustics

Timothy Whiteが79年～82年位まで編集発行したギター音響専門のジャーナルで，数年前，ご本人から90ドルで直接購入した5ｃｍ厚ほどのファイルである。

ギター音響だけをテーマとするのでは続かなかったのだろうが，ギターに関するまとまった研究書として大いに参考になるものである。日本音響学会でも現在年に何件かギター音響に関する研究が出ているが，論文となるとかなり少ない。ギター音響の分野でこれだけまとまったものは珍しいと思う。カーシャ設計シュナイダー作のギターや，「フレッティングと音律について」で紹介した，指板交換のUSパテントなどもここに収録されていた。USパテントには他にもとんでもないものが出ている。ヘッドに付いたチューナー（これは現在ほぼ実現）や，ネックにつけてコードのボタンを押せばコードを押さえてくれる器具，分解式でアタッシュケースに収めるギター等々。あっても欲しくないものも多いが，既に特許は切れており，自由に実施可能なはずである。

「楽器の物理学」にも銘器の表面板の振動解析などが取り上げられているが，こちらはやや古いといえ，ギターのみの研究成果で内容は豊富である。ただし，Journal of Guitar Acoustics以後，ラティス・ブレーシングや，ダブル・トップが出てきたところをみても，研究は進んでいたのだろう。新技術を取り込んでの再開を期待したいもの。

This collection of papers in professional journals were edited and published on the guitar acoustics until '79 to '82 by Timothy White. A few years ago, the file is about 5cm thick for $90 purchased directly from the individual.

The paper collection on the just guitar acoustics lasted in a short time, which is coherent research documents on the guitar as a useful reference. Although some researches on the guitar acoustics have been presented in the Acoustical Society of Japan, the full paper is much less than that. The presence of many coherent papers may rare case in the field of guitar acoustics. The guitar designed by Dr. Kasha and made by Schneider, introduced in "On the fretting and the temperament", and the US-patented fingerboard attachment were also included in the papers. The US patents are listed in the other crazy things. Tuner built into the head (it has been almost realized today!), instrument holding chords by pressing just a button on the neck, guitar fit into an attache decomposition method, etc. Even if the patents would be achieved, you might not wants the many achievements, but the patents have already expired, so the patents should be free.

"The Physics of Musical Instruments" has been featured vibration analysis of top plates, although this collection is slightly older, abundant research only the guitar is available. However, lattice bracing and double top have came out after the end of "the Journal of Guitar Acoustics", the study would be proceeded. I hope to resume the journal capturing those new technologies.
